Spring Cleaning: Routine Maintenance Prevents Sub-Zero Repair in Texas

The start of summer is the perfect time to perform routine maintenance on your Sub-Zero refrigerators and freezers because these appliances are going to get a real workout when the temperatures rise.

Summer is almost here and it’s time to get ready for entertaining backyard BBQs, family, friends and relaxing. The weather can get brutally hot in Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, San Marcos and Central Texas and the team at C&W Appliance Services are ready to help keep your refrigerator and freezer working properly to enjoy your time with friends and family.

As the weather heats up and friends and family visit you will have more guests, dinners, and gatherings. Your family is opening and closing the door more often to get cold drinks. Your kids are home for the summer and looking in the refrigerator and freezer. Everyone is using more ice and the surrounding air is pretty warm so your unit has to work harder to keep its contents cold. Ice machines are also one of the hardest working appliances in your home. They need regular maintenance. Keeping them in shape and properly maintained is important for their longevity.

Overlooked maintenance can cause inconvenient and avoidable refrigerator repairs for your exhausted appliance. Make it easy for yourself and let C&W Appliance Service, the only Sub-Zero and Wolf factory-certified premier partner in San Marcos, Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin and San Antonio, check over your refrigerator and other refrigeration units with professional care.

What’s Included in Our Preventative Maintenance Service?

Cleaning the Condenser Coils – Most of our customers’ cats and dogs have been shedding their winter coats. Pet hair as well as dust and dirt will clog vents and settle on warm condenser coils. When left too long, this debris can block your refrigeration unit’s intake and release of air from the vents. The coils have to work harder to dissipate heat. When this happens, food and drinks won’t cool as fast, and the appliance has to work harder, increasing the chance of failing parts that require Sub-Zero repair.

The coils can also collect dust if they have not been cleaned regularly. These tiny particles can build up over time requiring a good clearing for proper performance.

Clearing the Drain Line

The self-defrosting feature of your refrigerator produces a little water runoff when frost melts off the evaporator coils. The drain line directs that water directly to the drain pan. If the line gets clogged with mold or bits of food debris, the water can’t flow to the drain pan, so it backs up, puddling below your lower produce drawer. You may have noticed this, and wondered “where is this water coming from?” The drain line needs to be cleared.

Checking the Drain Pan

The drain pan is located under the refrigerator, behind the kick plate, or near the compressor. You should never have to empty it because a fan blows air over it and the water evaporates quickly. However, if the drain pan is cracked, then you’ll see water on the floor by the refrigerator. And if the drain pan gets dirty or moldy, you may notice a bad smell in your fridge. Your Sub-Zero repair technician will clean the drain pan or recommend replacement if it has cracked.

Inspecting Door Seals

Your Sub-Zero refrigerator or freezer shouldn’t be cooling anything but the food stored within. Over time, the rubber gaskets will crack or become dry. We’ll make sure you’ve got a tight seal that helps your equipment run efficiently.

Examining Your Overall Unit

This is a great time to ask your C&W Appliance Service technician any questions about your refrigerator or freezer and have him explain features that you may not understand.

Recommending Service

We’ll provide you with a written estimate if there is any other Sub-Zero repair your refrigerator or freezer requires. It may be included as part of your warranty.
